CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS: How to Watch and Free Activities for Kids

CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS has a vintage feel and fun, layered classical music that might remind you of cartoons you grew up watching. The new animated special comes to New Hampshire PBS on November 16, 2026.

Here’s what to know:

The story: Big Lion’s crown has disappeared, and a young hero sets out to find it before the carnival parade.

The look: 2D animation with hand-painted watercolor backgrounds.

The music: Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals, performed by Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, recorded live at the Hollywood Bowl.

The sound: Gustavo Dudamel’s 15-year-old son, Martín, narrates a brief introduction. After that, there’s no dialogue. The music and animation tell the story.

The length: 30 minutes.

The audience: Created for children ages 2–8, and for anyone who loves animation and classical music.

Where to watch: Monday, November 16, at 8:30 AM on New Hampshire PBS or at 2:30 PM and 5 PM on NH Kids. For free streaming, check the PBS KIDS app.
